Neues
Rathaus is located on 8 Marienplatz. The
Neues Rathause means New Town Hall in English. Taking
time to visit this historic building is worth it.
The building architecture has a gothic feel to it.
The building was started in 1867 and finally finished
in 1909. Georg Joseph Hauberrisser was the architect
who wanted the amount of detail to be put into this
building. It is about three hundred feet wide. The
tallest tower is two hundred and sixty feet tall.
The building is amazing to look at and the amount
of detail is stunning.
This building is used for a city hall these days.
The Neues Rathaus was built because
the Altes Rathaus, Old Town Hall was crowded and didn’t
have the space needed when the city was growing. The
Altes Rathaus near by and can be visited at the same
time as viewing the New Town Hall. The Glockenspiel
is a large clock that everyday at 11, 12 and 17 o
clock the figures will perform the coopers dance.
This dance was first done in 1517 as a sign that the
plague was over. If you are planning on visiting the
New Town Hall, try to come around
those times. This type of design isn’t found
in most buildings and is worth witnessing with your
own eyes.
